Vigilante Group of Nigeria and NAPTIP Collaborate to Arrest Rape Suspect, Bringing Justice to Victim

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria's Anti-Human Trafficking Department, based at the national headquarters in Gwarinpa Life Camp, Kado, has successfully apprehended a rape suspect, marking a significant victory in the fight against sexual violence and human trafficking. This operation was conducted in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), bringing hope and justice to the victim, a 12-year-old girl.

The incident, which occurred on the evening of October 9, 2025, at a sugarcane farm in Karmo village, Abuja, was reported to the Vigilante Group by a concerned neighbor, Mr. Godwin, on October 15, 2025. According to reports, the suspect, Christian Nwachukwu, 35, along with two unnamed accomplices, allegedly assaulted the young girl while she was on an errand to refill cooking gas.

The victim bravely recounted her ordeal, stating that she was approached by Nwachukwu and two other males who forcibly dragged her into the farm, where she was raped. The suspects reportedly threatened her to remain silent about the incident. Following the assault, the victim confided in her mother, who took her to the hospital for medical evaluation. Tests confirmed the presence of three different semen samples, corroborating the victim's account of the crime.

In response to the report, the Vigilante Anti-Human Trafficking Department, in conjunction with NAPTIP's Rapid Response Squad, initiated surveillance on Nwachukwu. Their efforts culminated in his apprehension at approximately 1:00 a.m. on October 16, 2025. During questioning, Nwachukwu confessed to the crime and was subsequently handed over to the Director of Violence Against Persons at NAPTIP's headquarters for prosecution.
