Two individuals suspected of gunrunning were apprehended in Katsina State, resulting in the seizure of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and more than 1,295 rounds of live ammunition.
As reported by DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the suspects—25-year-old Abdussalam Muhammed and 23-year-old Aminu Mamman—are both from Baure village in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. They were intercepted by operatives from the Katsina State Command at approximately 4:35 a.m. on September 1, 2025, while traveling in a blue Volkswagen Golf with the registration number RSH-528 BV along the Ingawa–Karkarku village road.
A search of their vehicle revealed one GPMG, 1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition, and 232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition. Initial investigations indicated that the firearms were being transported from Hadejia in Jigawa State to Safana LGA in Katsina for distribution to criminal organizations.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the officers for their prompt response and reiterated the Force's dedication to dismantling organized crime across the country. He also encouraged the public to continue providing reliable information to aid security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
